Hydraulic fluids begin circulating all around your Camry or Corolla every time you start the vehicle, but none of those fluids are more important than the brake fluid that actuates your Toyota brake caliper. That's because the Toyota brake caliper is arguably the single most important part of your brake system, providing the pressure needed for the pads to clamp down on the brake rotor, stopping your vehicle. Like any hydraulic ram, the Toyota brake caliper operates using a moving piston in a bore, or hole. The piston part of the Toyota brake caliper contacts the brake pads, while the bore is machined into the body of the Toyota brake caliper, which is firmly attached to the car or truck. When you step on the brake, fluid under pressure is forced into the Toyota brake caliper and the piston is pushed out of the bore. As a result, the brake pads push on the rotor and the resulting friction slows your vehicle. It's simple and elegant, and it doesn't work without a properly functioning Toyota brake caliper in the mix. So why wouldn't the Toyota brake caliper work perfectly every time? Fortunately, it usually does. But with age and heavy use, leaks have a tendency to sap some of the hydraulic power from the Toyota brake caliper. Also, since brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air, if the fluid isn't changed periodically it can begin to corrode the bore of the Toyota brake caliper. The piston starts to stick, and you get erratic braking performance. If your car has started to pull to one side or the other, or is making unusual noises from the wheels, be sure to thoroughly inspect each Toyota brake caliper.
