The oil pump is one engine component you won't want to mess around with. Strictly and figuratively speaking, this pump is the heart of your car's engine. The pump distributes oil to anything and everything that moves inside the engine, including the piston rings, valves, cams, and crankshaft bearings. Without this pump, your engine succumbed to damage long ago. So you have to be very wary of any and all indications of pump failure. Just what are the signs of oil pump failure? The first symptom has something to do with oil pressure. Most cars do not have oil pressure gauges on their instrument clusters. That's why owners who know better actually spend on having one installed on their car. It's kind of like having a blood pressure monitor wired onto your body 24/7. You have to make sure oil pressure on the gauge does not drop below minimum or exceed the maximum. Both excessively low and high pressures mean mechanical doom for the engine. Low oil pressure is more of a problem. It mostly happens when a leak has caused tremendous amounts of oil to be lost, or if the oil pump has been damaged so badly that it no longer provides sufficient oil flow for maximum engine lubrication. In that case, you're going to need a replacement. Just visit Car Stuff and we'll hook you up with the right pump for your car.
