The cooling system is one car feature that has made our driving as comfortable as possible. Naturally, we make sure that the cooling system feature of a vehicle is always running smoothly so that our engines do not overheat. And each component of a cooling system is important for the over all function. One such component is the fan clutch. The Mazda fan clutch is a thermostatically controlled device that exists as an integral component of the cooling system. It ensures that the fan will rotate at that right speed to prevent the engine from overheating and stop when it is no longer needed or when the engine is cool already. The operation of the fan clutch is regulated by a valve that is opened by a thermostatic spring or a bi metal coil spring. The valve controls the flow of a viscous silicone fluid or fluid couplings between the chambers in the clutch assembly. When the engine is cold, the clutch is essentially disengaged and the thermostatic spring is coiled and thus the valve is closed. As the engine warms up, the air flowing to the fan assembly/ radiator becomes hotter causing the thermostatic spring to unwind and open the valve. This opening allows the silicone fluid to flow into the main chamber, engaging the clutch and starts rotating the fan. Slowing the fan when it is not needed reduces fuel consumption, makes less noise and saves engine power. A common symptom of fan clutch failure is overheating at idle. Faulty fan clutches can cause poor performance of the car's air conditioning system because the fan also cools the air conditioner's condenser, which is directly in front of the radiator. Here in our online site we have a selection of Mazda fan clutch replacements that are made to meet or exceed OE specifications.
