Do you need an Infiniti timing belt or an Infiniti timing chain? It's a good question, and your Infiniti motor could use one or the other...or both. But let's assume we're talking about the primary Infiniti timing chain or Infiniti timing belt here-the one that drives your camshafts off your crankshaft. In most cases, the Infiniti V6 engine, like it's Nissan counterpart, uses an Infiniti timing chain to operate the valves. The Infiniti timing chain is exceptionally durable and should last the life of your engine. If you think you need a new Infiniti timing chain due to an instable idle or other factors, you're probably facing a full engine rebuild, so take that into consideration. The Infiniti timing belt, on the other hand, was used on a number of models including the J30. This engine requires periodic Infiniti timing belt replacement, usually at 60,000 mile intervals, that must be followed. If you don't replace the Infiniti timing belt and it happens to break while the engine is running you'll be facing a top-end rebuild at the very least. These engines are called 'interference engines,' meaning that the valves interfere with the pistons if the Infiniti timing belt breaks. Check your owner's manual to determine what type of valvetrain drive mechanism you have. If you have an Infiniti timing chain, don't worry about it unless you plan on rebuilding your engine. If you have an Infiniti timing belt, be sure to replace the unit at the specified intervals. It doesn't cost a whole lot, particularly if you purchase your Infiniti timing belt from us, and it's necessary to keep your car running.
