Did you ever stop to think about where the heat in your G35 comes from? If you said the engine, you're partly right, but there's a little device called the Infiniti heater core that transfers the heat from your engine to your cockpit. Basically, the Infiniti heater core is a small radiator that sits beneath your dashboard. In the summertime when it's not in use, the Infiniti heater core doesn't have hot engine coolant circulating throughout its tubing. In winter, however, as you select heat on the dashboard, a valve opens allowing the hot engine coolant to flow through the tubes of the Infiniti heater core, heating it up. That heat is then transferred to the air circulated by your climate control system. The whole system is quite elegant, since the Infiniti heater core uses no additional power: all the heat comes from the engine, and would have been expelled by the radiator anyway. In fact, if your Infiniti ever begins to overheat you can use the Infiniti heater core as a supplemental radiator-just crank up the heat and turn the fan on 'hi,' and your Infiniti heater core will help drop the water temperature. Infiniti heater core problems generally fall into two categories: leaks and clogs. Of the two, an Infiniti heater core leak is much more serious since it can cause rust, destroy your carpeting, and poison your kids and pets. However, an Infiniti heater core clog can result in a burst Infiniti heater core, which can cause all the same problems as a leak. If you notice any unusual moisture in the passenger compartment of your car, or a lack of heat being produced by the HVAC system, check (or have checked) your Infiniti heater core as soon as possible.
