The traditional ignition system has already evolved. Today, direct ignition is already gaining popularity. This system eliminates the distributor and spark plug wires, and instead sends power to the spark plugs directly from the coil. The said set-up is more efficient because it makes timing adjustment easy and saves on power, given that there's no more extra distributor to drive. However, for the system to work, each coil, spark plug, and direct ignition coil boot must be kept in top shape. The direct ignition system mounts the ignition coils directly on the spark plugs, one coil for each plug. The connection between the coil and the plug is crucial to efficient ignition, and this connection is maintained by the direct ignition coil boot. This boot is a small insulating rubber component that connects the coil's terminal to the plug's center electrode. Being rubber, the part can corrode and crumble over time, especially with the constant electricity being passed from the coil to the plug. When the direct ignition coil boot is already damaged, you can experience various engine problems-poor gas mileage, low boost, and cutting, among others. It's easy to see a damaged direct ignition coil boot when doing a regular check up. If you already need to replace the stock boot in your car, you can find boots in sets here at Car Stuff.
