Daihatsu is Japan's oldest car manufacturer. It is famous for its smaller models and off-road vehicles. Daihatsu vehicles are more commonly known as kei josh or kei cars in Japan. The term Daihatsu was derived out from the combination of kanji for Osaka and the first of the word engine manufacture. Founded in the year 1951, Daihatsu was formed as the successor of Hatsudoki. In 1967 Daihatsu has entered into an agreement with Toyota Motor Corporation and it's for this same reason that the latter is distributing Daihatsu models in North America. Last January, 2011 Daihatsu has announced that it would pull out of Europe by 2013 due to the weakening yen and worsening economic situation of Japan. In terms of the distribution of Daihatsu parts, the Japanese auto manufacturer has announced that the sale and supply of Daihatsu auto parts will continue together with the warranty work and servicing that are carried out at Daihatsu's official UK dealer network. Prior to the pull out announcement of Daihatsu in Europe, last March of 2005, Toyota has announced that it would start withdrawing Daihatsu from the Australian market after sales plummeted. Fortunately, for the Chilean market, Toyota has decided to continue offering Daihatsu models such as the Charade or Cuore in spite of its low sales in 2004 and 2005. Toyota has also mentioned that distribution of various Daihatsu parts in Australia will continue without any interruptions.

Daihatsu has distributed cars under different badges to cater to various automakers in the past. The same goes for the auto parts, Daihatsu manufacturers and supply all the required Daihatsu car parts even for those vehicles. The company is currently supplying engines and transmissions to Malaysia's Perodua, which in turn markets and manufactures rebadged Daihatsu cars locally and in United Kingdom. However, after the introduction of Perodua, Daihatsu's operation in Malaysia was reduced to concentrate on commercial truck market. Daihatsu products also reached Trinidad and Tobago, where the brands Midget Mk.I, Charmant, Rocky, Fourtak, Terios, and Grand Move are enjoying high sales. To support Daihatsu owners in upgrading and repairing their Daihatsu vehicles, Daihatsu car parts and other Daihatsu auto parts are distributed and sold by various Daihatsu dealers in Trinidad and Tobago.
