Unless you've got a serious muscle car Chevelle with the heater-delete option, you've got a Chevy heater core lurking somewhere beneath the dash of your Bowtie. That's a good thing and a bad thing. The good thing is that your Chevy heater core, when it's working properly, will ensure you stay nice and warm when the snow is flying outside. The bad thing is that there's a Chevy heater core inside your car with gallons of hot engine coolant flowing within. Any time you introduce liquids to the inside of your car or truck, whether through a Chevy heater core or, say, a mechanical oil pressure gauge, you open up the possibility of a rather nasty leak. And when you have a bad Chevy heater core, that's generally how you find out. If you are experiencing a lot of humidity inside your ride (often evidenced by a light fog on the interior glass), damp floor mats in dry weather, or a musty, sweet odor, you may have a leaking Chevy heater core on your hands. You can always ignore a Chevy heater core leak, at least until your floorpans rust out and you find yourself sitting on the asphalt beneath your car. Or you can order a new Chevy heater core and fix the problem correctly. Replacing a Chevy heater core isn't a difficult job; accessing your Chevy heater core can be very time-consuming, however. The Chevy heater core itself is just a small radiator bolted into a box, usually with a water inlet line and a water outlet line that must be connected. But the box that houses the Chevy heater core is often up against the firewall buried behind the dashboard. Make sure that you have a good repair manual close by before beginning a Chevy heater core replacement. And bring along a cooler full of your favorite beverage too: You might need it before you finish with your Chevy heater core job.
