What would you need an air deflector for? Here's a little experiment-try opening your window while cruising at high speed. Feel the volume of air flooding into your cabin? You may not notice it, but you're actually putting extra load on the engine. Simply put, you're dragging your car down by rolling down the windows. It's the same with your front bumper. It's designed to let air flow into the engine bay to help cool the engine. But the downside of this is the amount of drag being created. That's not entirely the best way to roll if you're aiming for fuel economy. That's where an air deflector comes in. As its name suggests, an air deflector 'deflects' air away by blocking its natural flow. When placed on your front bumper, it covers up all the gaps and channels where air would otherwise enter. Instead of flowing into the engine bay, air is deflected and flows up and to the sides. This way, you're effectively making your vehicle's nose more effective at cutting through air. Less drag is created, and therefore your engine doesn't have to work extra to overcome anything. Definitely, your vehicle's fuel economy will improve somewhat. The best thing about an air deflector is it can be DIYed to fit onto your stock bumper. There's no drilling or welding involved. As long as you can handle a few clips, it'll be up and working in no time. And it's available right here at Car Stuff.
