Designed to warm your feet rather than your heart, the Acura heater core is, in a nutshell, a pain in the butt to replace. Tucked away high in the dashboard, the Acura heater core circulates hot engine coolant for your climate control system, allowing it to heat up the air flowing through the Acura heater core. The system works great as long as the Acura heater core holds together. Unfortunately, time and a lack of coolant changes frequently take their toll on your Acura heater core, causing small leaks and reduced flow through the system. Reduced coolant flow simply means you don't get as much heat out of your Acura heater core. But leaks in the Acura heater core mean you end up with antifreeze and water on the inside of your car. That can cause problems ranging from windows that won't defog to floors that rust through. Needless to say, if your Acura heater core is experiencing problems, it will need to be replaced, and a new Acura heater core is easy to procure. Before you tackle an Acura heater core replacement, however, make sure you're armed with a comprehensive service manual and a significant block of free time. While the manufacturer sometimes provides an access panel or other provision with which to remove the Acura heater core easily, more often than not the dash will require disassembly to facilitate Acura heater core replacement.
